Thanks, Mark,

As a matter of fact, the landlord rented 4 bedrooms to 4 people (including myself)
and collected money individually.
It is hard to prove that one of the house mates deals drugs. But isn't the
landlord responsible for a safe and healthy living environment in the house?

I had talked to the landlord several times about this issue (basically, I asked
her to evict the drug dealer) and told her that I'd move out if she didn't do
anything and she asked me to wait 1 week and agreed to give me back my money if
nothing changed. So I waited 2 weeks and she did nothing. Things got worse
so I moved out last Sunday and now she is saying that I didn't give her 1-month
notice so she won't give me back the security and half-month rent.

Whatever the law is, it is just not fair for decent people to suffer the loss.

Joe

: How many people rented the house directly from the landlord and pay rent directly to the landlord? Did the landlord rent directly to some people and let those people bring in roommates?

: The drug issue, especially dealing, might be difficult to prove. If the suspected drug user/dealer is only a roommate and not a direct tenant of the landlord, I see no basis for you to get anything back from the landlord.
