Old tenant not leaving - I have a signed lease!

Posted by Anthony Rossello on July 30, 1999 at 19:50:57:

In mid-July of this year, I signed a lease to begin on 8/1.

I found out today, after pushing for two weeks to get a move-in date, that the
current tenant is not moving out. Seems his new apt fell through.

To compensate, the landlord has offered for me to move into another vacant apt
in the building until the other tenant moves out.

I checked out the apt tonight and I am not happy with it.
And I am definitely not happy with the idea of moving into the
original apt at some undefined date.

I don't want to put more stress on the landlord as he is trying to accommodate,
but this is obviously a serious inconvenience even with the vacant apt.

Does anybody I would like to know what my rights are here and what I can
reasonably request due to the inconvenience?

Thanks in advance,

Anthony
