What I did a few years ago: look them up in the blue pages, call, go in person, read the file. If that doesn't work, file a FOIL request: general instructions on Tenant.Net, the agency will probably send their own. Try also: their website: on the NYC site. My LL lied in that hearing too, but I didn't follow up...
