Don't pay the last months rent. Have the landlord inspect (don't tell them you are moving)the apartment for any potental problems and have it fixed. When you decide to move they can't claim you left the apartment in bad condition.
Normal wear and tear is always something to fight for if the landlord is a dick. Clear things that may be a problem now.

: We have been living in an illegal multi-family dwelling in Queens. We are constantly harassed by one neighbor, who I have called the police on several times. We are moving in a few days and the ll owes me a $700.00 deposit. I am afraid he will try to withhold it. I would like to know what is my recourse.

: I definitely want to report him for his illegal activities. Let me know what can be done.
