subletting my rent stabilized apt question

Posted by jane on June 27, 1999 at 21:02:22:

I'm thinking about moving in with a friend in an effort to save some money, but I don't want to lose my apartment. I'm wondering how long I can sublet it for. The messages around here seem to indicate that the length is up to 2 years at a time. The Rent Stabilization Lease Rider states the following:

"The subletting may not be for a total of two years out of a four year period preceeding the expiration date of the sublease, (for sublets occuring on or after July 1, 1983)."

Huh? I'm in the middle of a 1-year lease. Can I still write up a 2-year sublease that extends beyond the date my current renewal lease expires?

Thanks,

Jane
