It sounds like your landlord is trying to intimidate you into
paying money that he is not legally entitled to.
If there is no written agreement, then how can he prove that you
were ever in the apt during the alleged time-frame?
You may have simply lived there up to June 30 and moved out on
that day. Then again, if you dated (or stamped) the letter on
'July 6th' you were obviously there at the time. Nonetheless,
without any written agreement, the whole thing is shaky.
You should mention on this forum, what State you live in and
what kind of building and apt you live in for people to better
help you. JUNE 24, 1999.
