My husband and I have rented in this building for 4 1/2 years and it has, as of June 1, 1999, been sold, "converted to condos" (on paper anyway), is under new management, and we have not signed a new lease with the new owners. Can these new owners/landlords hold us to our old lease with the former owner? There is no binding effect clause in our lease nor anything about sales, assignments, or transfers. At the end of our lease(1/1/2000), we will be in a position of buy-or-leave OR have to rent month-to-month at an inflated rate.
Can the new owner/landlord take us to court for the remainder of the rent on our lease? We live in Tennessee.
