Landlord wants compensation for breaking lease

Posted by boots on May 26, 1999 at 18:25:29:

I currently live in a typical Manhattan apartment (8-12 units). My lease was to expiry at the end of September. I gave the Landlord 90 days notice that I would like to terminate the lease three months early. He easily found a new tenant at a higher rent then I am paying. When I asked him if I would receive all of my security deposit he said yes except for $500 for advertising. He now tells me it maybe more. He will know at the end of next month.

This is obviously B.S. and I am not going to pay my last month's rent. Given this, what is my liability if any???
