: tested 'overcharge': got 40 hits, some 100%, some 98%.
: all contained the word 'overcharge' in the body of the
: message, some also in the subject line, some also had variations
: like 'overcharging' 'overcharges'. there is no discernable logic
: to the rating 100% vs 98%. also: sometimes a reply quoting the
: original with 'overcharge' is there, the original is not.
: the messages' dates are random, from 98 to current, in no
: particular order: can you make it return in 'most recent
:date first' order within xx%? : all tested links worked.

Not all search engines are the same. This is by Excite and one
of the best. We needed to change for several reasons, but one reason
was that the old engine was killing the CPU of the host as we
have built up three years of messages. It read all messages
every time. The Excite engine is indexed and a lot faster.

There are tradeoffs though. It won't present every single result,
but we upped it to 40 and that should be enough for most people as
they are looking for previous discussions on their search term. You
can expand the search by Grouping and by "Query by Example" using
the red icon. Although it won't return the results in date order,
the old indexes are still available through the forum archives
and you can get date-ordered mesages that way.
