You must be very unexperienced, or one of those people who don't easily get a clue. Most people understand what risks come with living in a basement apartment, and they take steps to protect their belongings. In your case this ought to be doubly true because it happened before! That was your big clue, Elizabeth. Sewers do back up, it isn't a big plot, it's probably not even the landlord's fault. You or somebody like you is probably flushing Pampers along with the usual tampons. Next time this happens, will it come as a big surprise to you? I don't doubt it will.
