Never, ever pay the last months rent. Even if their wasn't a known problem with the deposit, the LL will come up with any stupid excuse to keep it, and make you chase him.

: I live in a rent stabilized apt. in NYC. About a year ago the building was sold. My lease came up for renewal recently, and the new landlord claims my security deposit was not passed on to him from the previous landlord. I'm planning to vacate the place, and have given my notice for June 30 (lease expiration date). I filed a complaint about the "missing" security deposit with the Attorney General back in March, but haven't seen results yet. I'm now considering not paying my last month's rent, since it looks like it's going to be difficult getting the deposit back. Any advice?
