Pets

Posted by Michelle on May 03, 1999 at 15:24:29:

I live in a four-plex in Indiana, and my landlords rented to a woman who has two cats even though they have a "no pets unless approved by landlord" clause in the lease. I moved in after she did, and the landlords told me "no pets" but that she has them because they were desperate for a renter.

That was fine until 3 weeks ago when I found a 3-week old kitten in their bush. I have nursed it, weaned it, litterbox trained it, etc., and now I want to keep it. Per the lease agreement, I asked the landlord's wife if that were possible. She said she'd talk it over with her husband. She did, and I received a note saying that I have until Wednesday (5/5) to remove the kitten or I would be breaking the lease.

Now, seeing that they have already set a precedent whether they wanted to or not, what recourse, if any, do I have?
