Index Numbers appear when a case has been registered in (housing) court. This is the way your case is tracked. Apparently, the papers you've received are typical photocopies or fabricated notices meant to scare you. I'm not saying that you shouldn't prepare yourself for eventual recourse. Your landlord may very well be underway with his/her own paperwork.
You can check to see if the papers are registered by going to the court clerk in the court where the case will be heard.
