I had the same question about wall that was built next to my fire escape.
I was told that in 1968 all the laws were changed so that it was, the landlords
option as to if he wanted to "extort" woops provide security.Oh as the landlord says
is not extortion if its done in the name of the law.I think thats a bunch of crap
But if i want security I have to pay the fee to have the bars put on the
fire esapae for security as per Housing regulations.


Of course he could provid security if the rent was raised.


: I live on the first floor and have very unsecure windows facing the street. Does the landord have any legal obligaiton to provide bars for the windows? It would take someon two seconds to get into the apartment wiht the windows LOCKED! Thanks for any advice.
