Landlord owns a Realty Agency

Posted by Lisa on November 19, 1998 at 10:09:39:

My landlord also owns a realty agency. The only way I could rent in his building was to go through his agency and pay a substantial broker's fee. When I was looking at the apartment he didn't disclose that he was the owner of both the building and the Agency, both have different names. This was something I figured out after I signed the lease. I'm suspicious because he has one phone number for both businesses and the receptionist doesn't say the name of either business when she answers the phone, she rambles off numbers instead. This seems strange to me.
