What could happen is that you could die from the gas !!! Call the gas company and have them check it out. If you live in NY call 212 960 4800
and file a complaint. You have a severely dangerous condition there that needs to be fixed immediately !! You could also file for a rent reduction for a
loss of services, the stove. In the meantime you may want to have them turn off the stove until it is fixed properly. Do not take any bull from the landlord on this one. You are entitled to a new stove, if they cannot fix it, without being charged for it. I suggest you visit the following web site and read the information provided there. All NYC tenants should read and memorize it. Another thing to do is to
either join Met Council or subscribe to their monthly paper called TENANT. The subscription was $2.50 a year last year. You can call them at 212-693-0550 M W F 1:30 to 5 pm.
