Not so simple -- it depends if she's in NYC and if rent stab/ctrl. You get into issues of subletting, assignment, primary residency and family succession (which is now more restrictive). Better to be educated. In general there is no "right" to assignment of a lease. Family succession depends on the relationship, how long the successor has co-lived with the leaving tenant and rent reg status. Subletting is limited -- see the Met Council edition from March 1996.
