Don't worry about it. Tell them of your rights as stated in the Tenants guide located in this site. Mention everything you just said and tell them you pay rent too.
Note: The only time you need to defend yourself is in court in front of a Judge, and they have to prove (with police reports, etc.) that you are a nuisance in the building. The landlord and tenant is being a nuisance to you, just ignore them, but still be considerate and document any abuse to you.

: My downstairs neighbors have filed complaints w/ my landlord about excessive noise from my apartment. I have received notice from my landlord stating that I can be evicted if the complaints continue. However, my apartment is 80% carpeted, I walk around barefoot, I don't play the stereo after 10PM, and even during the day I don't play it loudly. They have filed these complaints without once saying anything to me, and they won't respond when I ask them to tell me what I'm doing so I can correct it.
