: HELP. I want to stay in my apt. another year but the management company does not want to renew my lease, (and gave me no reason why). The building in is NYC and is rent stabilized. Do they need a reason to not renew or can they just kick me out? I have paid the rent on time. If I refuse to leave, what are the legal implications?

>> If the apt is rent stabilized they have to give you another lease unless they want the apt for themselves and it's a whole long involved process to get that. Send them a certified letter and tell them that you want to know the reason why they are not renewing. Go to www.oag.state.ny.us/business/tenantgu.html and carefully read everything there. It is the NY State Atty General Tenant Guidebook.
A rent stabilized lease is like gold. I suggest that all tenants in NYC read that thing asap.<<
