FIRST OF ALL, IF THE APT IS FURNISHED ALL THEY CAN CHARGE YOU IS AN ADDITIONAL 10% RENT...IF THEY CHARGE YOU MORE THAN THAT...YOU CAN RECOVER WHAT IS KNOWN AS "TREBLE DAMAGES" WHICH IS THREE TIMES THE INCREASE BACK TO YOU....

THAT MEANS IF THEY CHARGED YOU $100 A MONTH MORE THAN THE LEGAL RENT, THEN YOU CAN GET BACK $300 PER MONTH...

IF THE APT WAS SUBLETTED TO YOU THROUGH THE LANDLORD THEN THE LANDLORD CAN CHARGE YOU A SUBLET FEE BUT IF THIS WAS BETWEEN YOU AND HIM ONLY THEN HE IS FINISHED !!!

MANY TENANTS LIKE TO MAKE MONEY OFF THEIR APTS AND IT IS ILLEGAL TO DO SO OTHER THAN THE 10% MENTIONED ABOVE...

CONTACT THE NY STATE ATTY GENERAL'S OFFICE IN NYC FOR FURTHER INFORMATION AND ADVISE ON THIS MATTER.....

YOU CAN SUE IN SMALL CLAIMS COURT FOR THE MONEY.....

GO RENT A RENT STAB APT....
