Landlord vs. boyfriend

Posted by Mel on August 20, 1998 at 11:00:18:

I ended my lease with my landlord and he was not happy about it. I had found another place, and when my new landlord called the old one to ask about me, the old landlord said I did pay my rent on time and that I didn't trash the place. However, he did offer some of his opinions concerning my boyfriend and I. He said that my boyfriend is living there with me (which he isn't), he sleeps over all the time, his clothes are all over my apartment, his car has made ruts in the grass, he takes showers there all the time, etc...
Aren't there any privacy laws in Ohio that prohibit landlords from giving a reference like this? None of the information he gave was factual. It was all opinion. HELP!
