Lanlord-Tenant dispute

Posted by Rosalina on August 06, 1998 at 10:29:12:

Hi;
I live in NYC (S.I.) and have a major landlord/tenant disagreement. For the past 2 1/2 years I have rented a private home. I had a lease for the first year and the landlord never furnished me with a new one when the old one expired, so I have been living as a month to month tenant. I will be vacating these premises at the end of this month (8/30) I gave my landlord 35 days notice of my plans. My problem is that I have informed him that I will not be paying my last months rent to please use my security deposit. He went BALLISTIC! threatening me that we can end this in court. Can he really take me to court? I did not know that this was going to be such a major problem since in the past my previous landlord did it with no problems.
My question is can he do anything to me legally? I have enough grief in my
life right to have to deal with a hot head on top of this. Also, for the
past 21/2 years I have been paying for another tenants electric and gas
usage with no compensation from the landlord anyone knows what the laws
governing that.

If anyone can help me I would sincerely appreciate it.

Thanks again for the ear,
Lina
