All I can tell you is that, if you do it, to make sure that you have the rent money stored away somewhere (like in a bank account) just in case a judge demands it immediately. Your inability to present it may be grounds for eviction (though I may have that wrong), or simply something for a landlord to gain leverage with in a courtroom. In any case, don't spend the held-back rent money.
(I am not recommending or discommending your rent-strike).
