Lease renewal notice

Posted by Antonio on June 21, 1998 at 15:12:06:

I live in a non-regulated free market apartment in a Manhattan co-op building. I have been living here for one year and my lease ends on July 31. I would like to renew. When I did not receive a renewal form from my landlord, I called him to request one and he said he would. After two weeks had past and I had not received a renewal form, I called and again he said he would send one to me. I have still not received it and I am concerned. I have paid all my rent on time and have had no problems. Is their a mimimum legal notification period if the landlord desires not to renew the lease, even for an unregulated apartment? I checked the lease and I could not find any provisions regarding this. What are my rights, if he violates any relevant laws? Also is their a state/city housing authority I can contact with these and other questions? Grateful for your help.
