In most places it's illegal to evict without a court order. In NYC it's criminal, but she may have a civil recourse. The lease was not breached by a lack of a 30 day notice -- at least not until they move out and don't pay any remaining rent. It's a set up. Moreover, they appear to have stolen personal property. Courts are invariably pro-landlord, but you may have luck. I would consider it.
