Subject: Re: lease renewal for rent stabilized apartment

: I have been living in my rent stabilized apartment in New York City for over 20 years. My landlord sent me my renewal lease and I signed it and sent it back to him. The new lease starts in July. He did not send it back to me. Instead he sent me a letter saying that I would have to fill out an "Application for Renewal" form before he would sign my new lease.

: I wrote him a letter stating that the Division of Housing and Community Renewal informed me that an "Application for Renewal" form is not required in this case. That was three weeks ago. I have not heard from him.

: Could you tell me what to do now? Thank you so much for your help.

: Meada Inform him via certified mail that you expect back a countersigned copy of your lease renewal within 30 days as stated in the rent stabilization laws or you will file the appropriate complaint with the DHCR. They will handle the rest.
