rent increase

Posted by Z Pencikowski on May 08, 1998 at 21:51:47:

I'm not sure if you know the answer to this question, but here goes:

I moved into my apartment last August. When I showed up to sign the lease and move in, the landlord demanded an extra $60/month. I had in my hand the letter sent to me offering the apartment to me at the lower cost, but the landlord said it was a mistake, and I would have to agree to the higher amount if I wanted to move in. I had all my belongings outside ready to move in, so I didn't have much choice but to sign the lease with the increased rent. Do I have any recourse to this situation? Any information you can give me, including anyone else I could talk to, would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for your time,
