: Hello all -

: My girlfriend currently rents an apartment in Orange County, NY. She is
: considering accepting a job offer in NJ and will, therefore, need to terminate
: her lease. However, it does not expire until November. What are the laws
: about this in NY, and particularly in New Windsor? I have done some research
: online and have come up basically empty handed. She has calls in to DHRC and
: is awaiting callbacks. In NJ this law is a 60 day written notification,
: without penalty. I assume there is something similar, and any help is greatly
: appreciated.

: PLEASE cc a copy of any replies to jack@autek.com. Thanks in advance!!!

I do not believe there is a set law. It would need to be worked out with the landlord. He may give you the option of subletting or assigning your lease. If you vacate he does have the legal obligation of mitigating damages. However, if he takes his time, you may end up with a large rent amount due which is legally enforceable.
