This site has information on tenants rights. As of this moment on, you must write down any and all happenings you have with the owners family and their legal advisors. Also if your still paying rent get a receipt, canceled checks are NOT receipts... this is a good time to inspect your apartment for violations and loss of services. This is for your protection.
Most eviction proceedings allow time for a tenants to move out. Don't worry if a new landlord or the previous one gives you a letter demanding you to vacate. For ANY reason you many have for not moving out, please allow a Housing Court Judge to hear the case. Don't sign anything, Don't promise anything. Wait for the court papers.
If the new landlord likes you and would allow you to stay, then everyones happy. If not, You must defend yourself

In your next response please state how many apartments are in the building. ex. Two family, Four, Six.
