Landlord wont cash rent check!

He has issued us notice that we will not be able to
renew our lease on the basis that he wants our apt.
as his primary residence.

We are using all legal recourse possible to delay
this for various reasons, including his inscrupilessness.
We have already found significant blotches in his
business and legal dealings with us. (One instant
is where he told us we were sublessee's and never
issued a lease, when the DHC has us as the prime
lesee) We are looking into these ramifications of
these things.

QUESTION:
Our lease isn't up until Aug., but he still has not cashed
our rent check for April.

Is this some kind of attempt for him to evict us on the
ground of non-payment of rent?

What is the procedure for dealing with this.
