: My lease states I will keep the premises "as clean as the premises permits."

: and of my kid's room which had toys and clothes laying around. This is what they are taking me to court over.
: They say I have broken the lease and are seeking eviction.

: What does "clean" mean? What are my rights in keeping my home in my own idea of cleanliness.
: I do not want to be on constant vigilence to keep my kid's rooms spotless.
: They have a right to live in their own space.

Clean and "orderly" are not the same thing, although they overlap.
This sounds like a bunch of nonsense, but one person's notion of
clean is different from anothers. You do not need to be anal retentive
about things and yes you are allowed to allow things to lie around. But
if it attracts vermin or is stacked so high that it's a fire trap,
them it could be a problem. The criteria should be... is it a nuisance.
