: 2 years ago the landlord renovated the apartment next door. The new wall
: is one layer of sheetrock, as is mine, so the wall separating the two
: apartments is hollow. The newest tenant's are noisy and inconsiderate, and
: are using the apartment for a business as well. I have complained to the
: landlord about the noise and basically was told that all of the apartments
: are like that and no one else complains. Both of my downstairs neighbors
: have told me that they can hear them too. Are there any laws about how
: soundproof walls that separate apts. should be or how they have to be
: constructed?

Building codes usually don't speak to noise absorption, but other things.
But the owner is required to abate unreasonable noise, including
noisy tenants. If you can't talk to the neighbors and get relief, you
may have to force the issue with the owner.
