however, I would not let my landlord keep the key of my apartment. In an emergency situation, the firemen will knock the door down; otherwise, the landlord will be forced to ask your permission in advance to get the access.
I do not suspect that the landlord will sue you for not giving him the key, especially when you have a long history of his violation of your privacy. Just keep a record of it! Good luck.
