Due Dates

Posted by Concerned Tenant on February 04, 1998 at 23:21:48:

I signed a two-year lease on my rent-stab apt, beg. 9-20-96 and end. 9/19/96. The form was one of those pre-printed Arnold Mandell specials. My landlord informed me that rent is due on the day of the month when the term begins, i.e. the 20th. This is not explicitly stated in the lease. But I relied on this agreement as a tenant, and for over a year handed the money over on the 20th. Last month, 1/98, the landlord sold the bldg. to a management company who, besides erring in the balance due, informs us that rent is due at the first of the month, as stated by law. Which means I paid January's rent to the new guy (they took over as of the 1/15) on the 20th and now, because of the sudden transfer, lose my privilege to the 30-day interval. Am I stuck? Or might there be hope?

Thank you.
