BREAKING LEASE: FAMILY DEATH VS. ROACHES

Posted by Johnson on December 18, 1997 at 12:29:50:

Is either a death in the immediate family (father)
or a SERIOUS infestation of cockroaches in the whole building
a legal reason for breaking a lease early?
I am experiencing both of these things,
and after almost 4 years in a horridly maintained,
unsecure building (and taking my landlored to court for
failure to provide services and overcharging me)
I can't take it any more. My father has just died,
and the latest indignity is an incredible invasion
of roaches. They are bad in the building, but I have fought
to keep them at bay for years. Now they are invading.
Can I legally break my lease because of either of these reasons?
