: Me the undertenant has recieved papers from the landlord which includes
a hearing date, the tenant is out of town, may i go downtown and request
an adjourment? Does she need to be present? Help, ASAP!

Read the court section on the web. Usually the tenant has five days to
respond to a petition, but you can go downtown and explain the
tenant is out of town. Look for the tenant table in the main room in the
mornings and also see if there's a pro se attorney for advice. Be aware
that many procedures in Housing Court are now changing, so don't
rely 100% on what the booklets on the web say, and also the new rent
deposit law may possible require rent to be paid into court (not right
away but after the second adjournment or after 30 days).
