: I'll be moving out of my apartment at the end of December. What's the real story on using my security deposity to cover December's rent? I'd really love to do it, but don't want to hurt my credit.

Many tenants do this successfully as it "recovers' the deposit when many
landlords invent reasons to withhold it. Technically you're responsible
for the complete rent through the end of the lease, so the deposit
"covers" this. However, if there are damages, the owner can seek you
out either through court or by your credit rating. Make sure he can
prove damages, not just invent them. Take photos of the place when you
leave, have witnesses that you left it in good shape and try to get a
walk-through with the owner.
