: My building was sold 2 months ago. The new landlord (who I thought I was
: having a good relationship with) has just sent me a letter saying I must
: get rid of the dog in 10 days or else face eviction procedures. Can he do
: this? What is the legal status of a stabilized lease when there is a
: change of landlord? Any information on this would be really appreciated.

Be prepared to show the prior owner knew about (and waived any objection to)
the dog. Neighbors can also attest you walked him every day. Look at the
NYC Pet Law (in the CTRC Fact Sheet section). The new owner can try, but
the pet law should prevail -- even so do your homework. This applies to all
NYC tenants -- not just RC or RS. The new owner normally assumes all
existing tenants and situations.
