For work in your apartment, it has to be at "reasonable times" other than
for an emergency. Most tenants I know prefer the weekend so they don't
have to take time off work and often landlords insist weekdays 9-5
when they could do it just as easy on weekends -- just to annoy the tenant
and force him/her to take time off work (and then they don't show up).

As for banging on the weekend elsewhere in the building, I don't think
there's any law on that, but depends on how early. Check your local
community board as there may be restrictions on construction (not
repair work) on too early on Sat/Sun mornings.
