rent control increase 32%

Posted by rayne byer on September 14, 1997 at 19:04:14:

I just received a notice from Housing and Community Renewal, dictating a 32% rent increase
retroactive to 94-95 MBR. How can this happen..where is our protection?
I am not on SCREE and cannot afford hundred of dollars a month increase.
Nor do I have the disposable funds to pay back rent.
7 1/2 % is a lot of increase to pay yearly.
Compounded that is 22 1/1 % every 3 years which is a great deal more than
Rent Stabilized Tenants with leases pay.
My rent is not $300 per year. It is $ 925. This increase will put me out of my
my apartment and I don't know where that will be.
32.4% increase and retroactive..by increasing the 94-95 MBR.
How does that compound on the ensuing years.
1995-96-97-98. WOW!
How much the landlords must be gloating. They won their case with much to
spare.
Just look at all the empty apartments they will be getting when we all have
to move out.

Appalled and frustrated.
