Re: Building Security

Posted by Carol on August 11, 1997 at 13:23:24:

I live in a rent stablized building with 10 apts. The main entrance is off
the main street and through a small arch way and therefore is quite hidden to
the general public. As a result, it's a popular for teens to hangout and
smoke drugs. They gather in the porch area where the mail boxes are located
and if they can they enter into the actual building and sit
in the hallways and on the stairs. The Many tenants have ordered them out and
called the police but the kids keep coming back !! The building Manager
has told me he can do nothing about this problem as he "he doesn't
live there" and to just keep calling the police. He refuses to install a
lock on the outer door as the mailman needs access. Its really scary to
come home at night and have to pass through 5 or 6 drugged out kids to get
into my building. They also put graffiti on the walls and mailboxes-which
isn't cleaned off. Doesn't the landlord have a responsibility to do
something about this situation?? Should I write to him directly and not
deal with the slimy Bldg Manager?? A lot of apts in the bldg have been
burgled too. Please help.
