We thought about removing this message -- dealing with alleged
microwave transmissions and its inferred harassing effects on tenants.
Over all, the message is arguably off-topic for this board.
Let's assume the message was not a prank. I have known people
who hear things that I cannot hear. If not a prank, then the
writer may actually perceive what he is telling us.
Microwave transmissions can be a real topic of concern. My own community
board recently dealt with microwave transmitters (cellular
phones) and their potential health effects on residents. I don't
pretend to know the technology or the extent of the potential
danger, but it is a legitimate topic. However, in that case, the
tenants knew who was doing what and for what purpose. They made
no jumps to conclusions and certainly didn't bring in the CIA
and other nefarious dark forces.
I have also known certain landlords who will engage in low-level
noise harassment. It does happen. It has happened to this
tenant advocate. But the low-level noise is not ham radio
"direct-to-skull" transmissions and my rear molar does not
sing the blues.
As criminal as this writer's landlord is, I don't think he's
conspiring with the CIA in order to harass me. He's capable
of doing it all on his own and if I chose, I could provide details.
I could state when, where, how (and probably why) such noise
was being created. I could give you names of others who have heard
it. Here the writer states nothing.
The only "facts" relayed by the writer is that he once
heard noises coming from an unplugged radio. From that he
jumps to various inferences as to who is doing it, how it
is being done and who is doing it. Surely there's enough real
harassment and discrimination (of tenants or HIV individuals)
in this world that we needn't belittle its effect with this
sort of claim.
It would be very easy for some landlord or right-wing troller
to post this kind of message and come back later and claim that
"this" is what those crazy tenants are talking about.
Such "big lies" are what politics is all about. You just saw
six months of big lies by the media, landlords and politicans
(and yes, even by a few tenant advocates). Remember, they
called tenant protections "subsidies" and from that it
follows that if you're a tenant, ergo you're a freeloader, or
worse, a marxist.
So that's why we sometimes moderate this message board. We
occasionally get such off-topic, wild, inappropriate and sometimes
obscene messages. If a landlord wrote he/she was against
rent regulation because it limited his/her potential income, that's
an honest and substantive post. If you go to Usenet, it's all
spam. We look for substance, and we do moderate the extent of the
noise on this board, so we hope you can get something of value.
Now go learn about how the CIA is harassing tenants :)
