: Lawmakers are no idiots. I imagine the changes being considered are
backed by good polling information that tells them voters are willing
to see change. Which gives reason to consider the do or die strategy
being taken by political consultants representing us may backfire.

Not really. Anyone who doesn't understand what rent regulation is all
about would believe the lies from the landlord's PR campaign, which is
over ten years old now. Polling on tainted beliefs only will tell you
how much politicians can get away with. It no longer amazes me that the
nature of the debate is extremely shallow. It's about time there was a
do or die strategy as for years many of the old tenant groups have been
giving up without a real fight (or in some instances, selling out). But
the concept of "do or die" is also part of the red-baiting now being used
by a number of politicians -- that tenants are extremists and radicals.

: Am I worried about loosing the swing votes over this issue the way
it is currently being handled? Yes, I am.

I'm worried as well because much of the effort is misdirected. They're
going after the wrong people. Bruno did not create, nor can he fix
this situation; he only has a loud mouth.

: Is it obvious that the only the zealots are participating within this
forum. Yes, but that is probably okay, being this is a special interest
issue. (This is our base)

I'll let that one pass.

: However, the subject at the state level is more of a good
government/policy issue.

Nope, it's idiotic party politics. And tenants are the football in this
game. If I had more time I'd give you play-by-play of what's really
going on in Albany.

: If you must write third party letters, you
need substance (not opinions).

There's been thousands of substantive letters. They are drowning
in letters in Albany. Much of the debate is framed on lies, and that
that isn't barely gets into the real substance of how the system
could or should work. The entire system needs an overhaul and parts
of it should be thrown out -- because much of it does not work and
it's killing tenants.

: Wouldn't be a bad idea to pretend you are a bit more moderate...

It's naive to think it's a question of moderation vs. zealousness.
The Willy Horton issue in the 1988 presidential campaign had more
substance.

: I know someone who
is sending letter after letter ... the exact same text but sent from
different authors, each version being printed out using different fonts.
What does she think, receivers are only counting pages?

That's exactly what they do. Cuomo used to have a formula: 200 printed
postcards equaled one personal letter and so on.
