: Who's in charge of the rent controlled apt I have been living in for the past 40 years? The City Council or the State Legislature? Why is this matter even up for discussion? I though the law expires only if the vacancy rate reaches above 5%.. Did I miss something important I should know about?
The state Assemby, Senate and Governor have to come to some agreement concerning rent regulations before June 15th. Why rent regulations are threatened probably has something to do with Pataki being elected. I think he set the anti-tenant tone. Write and call Pataki and express your concerns. Let him know that he will not be voted to a second term if he does not renew rent regulations -- with no weakenings like vacancy decontrol.
