Family Member Rent Control Apartment

Posted by Nathan Judge on April 07, 1997 at 16:19:27:

My Great-Grandmother has decided to vacate her rent-controlled apartment
after living in it for 45+ years. I have lived in NYC for approximately
one year at another residence near her locality. During this time, I did
not support her in any way, either financially or physically (she's a
tremendous lady), nor did I live with her. I am interested in retaining
the apartment, but the landlord has denied me any rights to it.
I am interested in any rights I have to the apartment and to either the old
or a new lease.
Please help me answer this question.
