Need immediate reply...Help!!

Posted by Lynn S. Smith on June 17, 1997 at 11:10:56:

Recently went through a demeaning experience with a manager & Ass.t
manager that made a disgraceful error in judgement. Paid last years lease
in full to previous owners and management of complex. Had moved to another
Apt. so pro-rated 6 days til the first of the month. Rent due June 1, 1997
so paid three months in advance on May 15th, signed yrly. lease to begin
June 1, 1997 thru May 31, 1998. Thought all was settled. Received a
notice tacked on door knob that we owed 184.00 plus a 60.00 late fee.
It was horrendous. Made an appt. with manager for 1:00 P.M. the next day
and at 1:45 he had still not shown up. Asst. Mgr. stated he enjoyed
harrassing the residents and making them squirm. I finally got the
previous Mgr. to call this guy but he still made me squirm for several
days, then finally admitted we owed no monies. I have a debilitating
disease and suffer emotional and physical pain and this guy made me even
sicker. What are my rights as a tenant? Do these tactics go on without
retaliation? What course of action can I take? I have written the home
office in Texas and we live in Fl.. Need off the record advice.
