Sublets -"intent to return"

Posted by Paul Woodiel on June 02, 1997 at 15:07:21:

I live in a rent-stabilized unit in Manhattan. I'm purchasing a home in New Jersey -- going to try the commuter's life.
I don't KNOW whether I want to return, but I'd like to sublet my apartment in the event that I DO. Is there a problem with this? And if so, why?
Is the purchase of a home in NJ in itself enough cause for my landlord to withhold consent for a sublet?

Aren't there one or two wealthy people in the world who maintain rentals in NYC while living in Short Hills?

What sort of info is the landlord entitled to question me about my plans? Can I not just sublet the unit and turn over the lease in two years if I decide not to come back?

Thank you in advance for any replies, advice, or directions to where I can find information about this topic,
which must have been discussed at length SOMEWHERE!
