: : : : I agree and my question is why haven't tenant organizations taken some of the funds they are raising and used this money to hire publicists to reach the media to defend rent regs and to take out ads to reach the media and the public alike?? On this message board we are mainly preaching to the converted. I'm not knocking the importance of this. Here we share vital information and help to galvanize tenants to become active on their own behalf.
Just a clarification -- when I stated that I resented being put in a position
of defending a corrupt system, I didn't mean I resented Mr. Wolff's question,
but generically tenant leaders have allowed the debate to be framed in
such terms. Many of those who continuously do this aren't thinking too clearly.
As for Dottie's remark why aren't there publicists, why not pose that question
to those who claim to be "leading the way" but who have really "dropped the ball"
time after time and allowed things to get this bad. If a tenant group (outside your
building) asks for money, you should find out what they are actually doing with
the funds they raise (don't rely on what they promise - take the time to find out).
