TenantNet Conference Area

Posted by TenantNet on May 23, 1996 at 09:51:06:

In the short week this area has been we're pleased to see tenants
discovering and using this area -- and not only from New York. Tenants
from different areas should talk to each other. Your laws may differ,
but you can probably benefit from an exchange of ideas and strategies.
Remember to identify in your message your location. This area is also not
just a Q&A between you and TenantNet so we will not always automatically
respond to every single posting. We're hoping that you, the tenants, will
create a dialogue and share your experiences and tips. Be aware though that
any one person's opinion on a law, regulation or the "way things work" do not
necessarily make it so. People have many misconceptions on housing laws.
And when TenantNet responds, the same applies. Please read our disclaimer at We are not attorneys and cannot give you legal

This area is still in testing and as we discover glitches and things,
we anticipate changes will occur. Eventually we will move this area to an
address on the TenantNet server and we also anticipate (technical details
permitting) to merge these discussions with the majordomo email mailing list.

Right now the searching capability is rudimentary and not boolean.
It will look for strings of text. We hope that will improve in the future.

One policy issue we should raise before it happens. We occasionally get email
from potential tenants who think we are an apartment brokerage, roommate finder
or similar outfit. The real estate industry has many such sites on the web and usenet
has many newsgroups for "market.housing" for people looking for apartments or
for people looking for tenants. We encourage people to make use of those resources
with the caveat "renter beware."

This message area is NOT meant for advertising apartments for rent and is NOT meant
for messages by people looking for apartments. Those kinds of messages are innappropriate
here and we reserve the right to remove any such messages at our discretion.
