Dweller's Rights.

Posted by TonyMargarit on August 31, 1996 at 01:25:22:

I had a friend who rented me his house which was a 3/4 acre lot. Since
this person was my friend every time I paid for the rent I did so in
cash. After 4 month I was away on vacation and when I returned there
was a letter attached to my door saying that the house was going to be
auctioned within 30 days. I did not have a lease and this all caught me
by superise. I had all mine and my daughters furniture in the house.
When I approched him with the letter, he said that it was a mistake, and
that he would take care of it. This went on untill five days before
the house going to auction. By then I knew he was lying to me. To make
a long story short I ended up loosing all mine and my daughters belongings
I found out from a friend who put a search on the title, that the person
who rented the house to me had not paid any money towards the morgage
for 10 months. I do not know what laws cover me and if this is concidered
a crime. If anyone knows please help me by letting me know. Thanks
